Chepkoech Buttia, MSc
Project Coordinator
Being born and raised in Kenya, I became aware of public health issues, particularly those affecting high-risk and understudied populations. With a strong interest in this, I moved to Germany to broaden my knowledge and gain experience that would later enable me to work in the Kenyan health sector. I successfully completed my bachelor’s degree in Applied Biology in 2012. In 2013, I enrolled in a master’s program in Hamburg, Germany, and graduated in 2015 with a master’s degree in public health.
I worked as a part-time content marketer in Hamburg before taking a career break to raise our two daughters in 2016. During this time, I was able to author and co-author a book on the health challenges associated with Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) among Kenyan communities.
In 2019, I moved to Bern, Switzerland, to volunteer for the Swiss Red Cross. I also began my internship at the University of Bern in the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM), where I later became employed as a research associate and assisted over ten PHD students with their projects. I’ve written over five peer-reviewed articles and conducted numerous systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
